London’s West End never disappoints with each year bringing its lot of exciting new musicals and plays, as well as revivals, set to delight theatregoers keen to see new West End productions. 2025 has been nothing short of spectacular with the likes of Rachel Zegler turning up the heat in Evita’s revival, assembling crowds in the street during the interval balcony performance. Then there was Jonathan Bailey’s captivating portrayal of Richard II.

Immerse yourself in 1950s Oxford with the multi-award winning production of Shadowlands. Originally a BAFTA-winning television drama, its stage adaptation follows the beloved author of The Chronicles of Narnia, C. S. Lewis, as he meets American poet Davidman. Played by Hugh Bonneville, Lewis must confront his long-held beliefs, grief and loss as his friendship with Davidman evolves into a love story in this poignant drama about a man changed by love and heartbreak.

Beetlejuice

Don't miss the long-awaited London premiere of Beetlejuice, as the Broadway production crosses the pond to bring Tim Burton's blockbuster to the West End stage. Meet Lydia Deetz, a strange and unusual teenager obsessed with Beetlejuice, a demon from the underworld who is ready to unleash mayhem on Earth. The prior owners of the Deetz’s mansion are determined to scare the Deetz family away, enlisting Beetlejuice's help to haunt them. However, things begin to stray from the original plan. Expect outrageous storytelling paired with spectacular special effects!

Sinatra: The Musical

Much to audience members' delight, Sinatra: The Musical is finally landing on the West End, premiering in June. Travel back to 1942, when a young Italian-American singer took to the stage for a performance that would change the course of music history. Sinatra was not only the voice that captured the nation's heart, behind the persona was an artist grappling with family life and temptations that led to scandals, ultimately causing the press to turn against him and resulting in the greatest comeback in showbiz. This dazzling musical will feature over 20 of Sinatra's greatest hits, including 'For My Baby', 'The Best Is Yet to Come' and 'I've Got the World on a String'.

Interalia

Following its sold-out run at the National Theatre, the gripping play Inter Alia is returning to the London West End for a limited run. This bold, thought-provoking drama stars Oscar-nominated actress Rosamund Pike as Crown Court Judge Jessica Parks. Follow her story as she tries to change a failing justice system while balancing motherhood and personal ambition. In a groundbreaking performance, she confronts societal pressures faced by working mothers and explores how far one's integrity holds up under pressure.

The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry

Following a critically acclaimed and sold-out summer season at the Chichester Festival Theatre, this stage adaptation of Rachel Joyce’s popular novel will open in London’s West End this winter. Follow Harold Fry as he embarks on an extraordinary journey after receiving a letter from a former colleague who is in the final days of her life. Set to a mesmerising musical score by indie artist Passenger, watch Harold go on a pilgrimage of love, redemption, and second chances. 

CHAT NOIR!

Step back into Victorian times and witness Ralph Fiennes star as theatre legend Henry Irving in Grace Pervades, a new play by David Hare which first premiered in Bath before heading to London. Watch the intertwining lives of two of the greatest theatre actors of their time, Henry Irving and Ellen Terry, and discover their story both on and off stage as they build a legacy that endures to this day.

The outrageous and mischievous puppet-filled Avenue Q is finally returning to London’s West End, much to fans’ delight. The multi-Tony award-winning show is returning for the first time to the West End since 2010. Bringing to the stage hilarious and heartfelt moments paired with showstoppers such as What Do You Do with a B.A. in English? and It Sucks to Be Me, this show is set to rock up the auditorium in a special celebration of what is one of the most beloved musicals to have graced the West End.

CATS

Andrew Lloyd Webber's legendary musical CATS returns to London for a limited season at the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre next summer. sure to delight theatregoers, this feline extravaganza is based on T. S. Eliot's "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats". Meet the Jellicle cats as they meet at the Jellicle Ball waiting to find out which one of them is worthy enough to ascend to the Heaviside Layer and be reborn. The show is set to feature some of the musical’s most iconic songs, including Macavity and Memory, and promises showstopping performances on one of London’s most iconic stages.

Kinky Boots

Stepping into Lola’s heels is Strictly’s Johannes Radebe, previously played by Olivier-winning actor Matt Henry, now in The Devil Wears Prada, in the much-awaited revival of Kinky Boots. The new musical production is strutting back into the West End, reviving the stage adaptation based on the true story and hit movie featuring music by Cindy Lauper. Follow Charlie Price as he inherits a failing family shoe business, his life turned upside down when he meets Lola, a larger-than-life drag queen bringing sparkle in a glorious celebration of friendship.

High Society

The Barbican is hosting the most glamorous party of the season with the highly anticipated revival of High Society, returning to the London stage for the first time in almost a decade. This dazzling production of Cole Porter’s musical, set during the golden years of Hollywood, follows the misadventures of Tracy Lord, played by Helen George, as she prepares for her lavish wedding reception. Chaos ensues when her ex-husband reappears, accompanied by paparazzi, adding to the already complicated situation.

Teeth 'N' Smiles

Don’t miss David Hare's rebel play, Teeth 'N' Smiles, returning to the London West End for the first time in 50 years. This new production stars Rebecca Lucy Taylor as the anarchic Maggie, lead singer of a 1960s counterculture band refusing to hangup the mic for a final farewell. Once a rock n roll sensation, Maggie now broke and bitter, is determined to not go quietly in a booze-fuelled, wild night to remember.

Top theatre news and trends in London for 2026

In 2026, major theatre productions are heading to London's West End, where they are sure to dazzle audiences looking for show-stopping performances. These productions add to the ever-growing list of West End new shows to see in 2026, breathing new life into classic revivals and brand-new productions. With more exciting announcements to come, the year ahead is set to be a thrilling one under the spotlight.

The West End makes history!

Earlier this year, The Mousetrap celebrated its 30,000th performance in the West End, and it is set to mark its 75th anniversary in London. To mark this milestone, the show has extended its booking period all the way to 2027 and has announced that Ola Ince will be the new director. 

Mark the date for the one-week-only 25th anniversary concert run of The Last Five Years (24–29 March), starring Golden Globe winner Rachel Zegler (Evita) and Tony Award actor Ben Platt (Dear Evan Hansen), who are set to reprise the emotional and poignant portrayal of two New Yorkers falling in and out of love with each other over the course of five years. 

Star led productions to look out for

Jesus Christ Superstar is set to light up the London Palladium next summer, with 2022 Eurovision runner-up Sam Ryder sure to electrify the stage with his show-stopping vocals. Andrew Lloyd Webber's rock opera musical returns to London for the first time since its 2016 run at the Regent's Park Open Air Theatre, where it won the 2017 Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival. 

See Wicked star and Tony Award-winning actress Cynthia Erivo star in Dracula, a reimagining of Bram Stoker's blood-pumping tale of Count Dracula. This genre-defying play sees Cynthia Erivo portray 23 different roles over one hour and 50 minutes of spectacular staging, making for an unmissable showstopper.  

Powerhouse soul singer and Olivier Award-winning actress Beverley Knight is back in 2026 with not one, but two shows. Following its acclaimed run at the Rose Theatre Kingston, Marie & Rosetta transfer to London's Soho Theatre (28 February–11 April), transporting audiences to 1940s Mississippi and recounting the life of pioneering guitarist and gospel singer Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Knight also reprises her role as Emmeline Pankhurst in Silvia, a performance that won her the 2023 Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Musical. 

Reinventing beloved shows and breaking new ground on stage

Get ready to have the time of your life! The new Capital Theatre is set to open its doors in October 2026 with a brand-new production of the worldwide smash hit musical Dirty Dancing. This new, purpose-built and versatile venue is said to bring audiences closer to the action – you'll never be more than nine rows away from the stage in the 620-seat auditorium.  

Whodunnit [Unrehearsed] returns to the Park Theatre (11 May – 27 June) for another round of chaos, putting the audience at the heart of the action. Set in the Wild West, where murder and mayhem are rife, this production is paired with musical mischief for the audience's greatest pleasure. Each performance sees a different celebrity take on the role of the sheriff, and Ian McKellen has been announced as returning to the show to lend his voice to the chaos. 

Indhu Rubasingham, the new director of the National Theatre and the first woman to hold the role, is collaborating with Stormzy, a rap artist, on a new project featuring his music, with details yet to be announced. Paul Mescal is set to make his National Theatre debut in two shows: A Whistle in the Dark and Death of a Salesman. The 2026 line-up also includes Pride, a new musical based on the 2014 BAFTA-winning film, and The Playboy of the Western World, featuring Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan. Not to be forgotten is the new adaptation of The Jungle Book, based on Rudyard Kipling's stories, which will make its way to the National Theatre at the end of 2026.
