About

The underworld steps into the spotlight in London's West End, with Beetlejuice the Musical now showing at the Prince Edward Theatre. This smash-hit Broadway production, based on Tim Burton’s cult film of the same name, is already haunting London theatre fans in the best possible way.

Get ready for a musical packed with outrageous humour, larger-than-life characters and plenty of supernatural surprises. At its heart is Lydia Deetz, the strange and unusual teen who becomes fascinated by a certain ghost from six feet under – none other than Beetlejuice himself.

What is the plot of Beetlejuice?

Beetlejuice... Beetlejuice... Beetlejuice... The third time's the charm!

After Lydia Deetz and her family move into an old mansion, the previous owners, Barbara and Adam Maitland, return from the afterlife. They attempt to scare the Deetzes away by enlisting the help of the creepy poltergeist Betelgeuse to haunt them. However, things do not go according to plan.

Beetlejuice, a creature who particularly likes to wear stripes, seems to have an agenda of his own when he turns into a snake and terrorises the Deetzes. While the adults cannot see the ghostly couple, goth teen Lydia can, and they bond over their dislike of her parents. This gives Lydia the perfect opportunity to explore her passion for the obscure and supernatural worlds. Determined to save the Maitlands at any cost, Lydia promises to marry Beetlejuice so that he can remain and terrorise the mortal world.

What follows is a whirlwind of dark humour and catchy tunes in this uproarious musical celebrating family and love amid chaos and madness.

Why you should see the Beetlejuice musical in London

Beetlejuice the Musical premiered on Broadway at the Winter Garden Theatre in 2019, to fans’ delight, and was met with wide acclaim, earning three nominations at the 2019 Tony Awards, including Best New Musical. The show then toured across the US before returning to Broadway for a limited 13-week run that ended in January 2026. The show has now moved transatlantic, debuting its long-awaited run on the London West End stage in May 2026.

The stage adaptation of Tim Burton’s 1988 movie boasts an all-star creative team. Music and lyrics are by Eddie Perfect, who received a Tony nomination for Best Original Score. The production is directed by two-time Tony Award winner Alex Timbers (Moulin Rouge! The Musical, Peter and the Starcatcher), with choreography by Connor Gallagher (The Robber Bridegroom, ELF the Musical). Set designs come from David Korins (Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen), while costumes are by six-time Tony Award winner William Ivey Long (The Producers, Hairspray).

Who is in the Beetlejuice cast?

Olivier Award nominee David Fynn (School of Rock) plays the iconic Beetlejuice. Starring alongside him is Hannah Nordberg (HBO’s Euphoria) in her West End debut as Lydia.

They are joined by Chelsea Halfpenny (Waitress, 9 to 5: The Musical) as Barbara, David Hunter (Waitress, Kinky Boots) as Adam, Aimie Atkinson (Death Note, Pretty Woman) as Delia, and Alasdair Harvey (In The Print, Follies) as Charles.
