Taking centre stage at the London Palladium for an 11-week limited run from 20 June to 5 September 2026, expect dramatic storytelling, unforgettable songs and a fresh, contemporary edge as this cultural phenomenon returns to the stage.

Step into ancient Judea as Jesus Christ Superstar tells the story of Jesus’ final days through the eyes of Judas Iscariot. From the moment Jesus and his followers arrive in Jerusalem, tensions rise, loyalties are tested, and a fateful betrayal changes everything.

This legendary rock opera combines drama, emotion and an unforgettable performance. Expect show-stopping hits including “Superstar”, “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” and “Gethsemane”, performed by an incredible cast led by Sam Ryder as Jesus.

Who is in the cast?

Sam Ryder, BRIT and Emmy-nominated singer, songwriter and musician, plays Jesus. He is joined on stage by Olivier Award nominee Tyrone Huntley, who previously played the same role in the Regent's Park Open Air Theatre production (not performing on Wednesdays from 8 July). 

Desmonda Cathabel, who recently starred as Eurydice in Hadestown, joins the cast as Mary Magdalene. Olivier-nominated actor David Thaxton, who has appeared in West End and Broadway productions of Sunset Boulevard, plays Pontius Pilate. 

Six different actors are set to share the role of King Herod:

  • Julian Clary (Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club, Sleeping Beauty): 31 August-5 September

Following its summer season, the musical revival of Jesus Christ Superstar is extending its run, moving to the Theatre Royal Drury Lane from 6 October 2026 to 9 January 2027. Sam Ryder is set to star as Jesus in both London runs.
