The Monochrome Set at Dingwalls

Dingwalls NW1 8AG[map]
The Monochrome Set are effortlessly inventive, literate, poised and immaculate of tuneage, possessed of an internal dialogue as a band that allows them to surf their own narrative. They are just unlike anything else, in layman’s terms. If that reflects a lack of concern with their contemporaries, that’s because they are pretty much untroubled by peer pressure. Instead, their sound harks back to a golden era of British pop songwriters- but there’s nothing retrogressive about their endeavours. Instead, they write songs that recreate the drama and promise of a movie theme, veering from lullaby to mambo to harmonic pop, accompanied by lush melodies and irresistibly playful lyrics that embraced morbidity at one extreme, and pitch-perfect satire at another.

Rich Mix E1 6LA[map]
A fusion of live music and cinema exploring the haunting wordless female vocal and the psychedelic lounge trip of Ennio Morricone's cult Italian film scores of 1968-72. F'eatre are the extraordinarily talented Fiona Staniland (producer, chanteuse), Nick Ramm (musical arrangements, keyboards), Alex Keen (basses) Jon Scott (drums), Jon Gingell (guitars) and Gerry Hunt (clarinet, flute, sax, trumpet). A triptastic mix of hypnotic jazz rhythms, bossa beats, soaring soprano and avant garde expressionism to a stunning backdrop of original film visuals.
