Discover the magic of Harrods at Christmas

Harrods has been embracing the Christmas spirit for more than a century. Originally opened at its Knightsbridge location in 1849 by East End grocer and tea merchant Charles Henry Harrod, the store became an early innovator when it introduced England’s first escalator in 1898. It has since evolved into a must-visit seasonal attraction, captivating customers with its spectacular and opulent Christmas Shop.
Every year, I find myself returning to this world-famous London landmark to soak up its sparkling transformation, enchanting atmosphere, and nostalgic traditions – and, of course, to discover some truly unique Christmas gifts!
When does the Harrods Christmas Shop open?

Delighting visitors for decades, Harrods' legendary Christmas Shop, now known as Christmas World, traditionally opens in August, months ahead of the holiday season.
Opening dates may vary each year for this treasure trove of Yuletide treats, located on the lower-ground floor. With its traditional fare, and its elegant Christmas decorations, luxury crackers and advent calendars, Harrods welcomes international visitors seeking seasonal shopping and early festive planners alike.

Top tips for visiting

Harrods is located in Knightsbridge, London, with Knightsbridge Station (Piccadilly Line) just a short walk away. Several bus routes stop close to the store and if you're staying nearby, walking or cycling can be a scenic way to get there.
To have the best shopping experience and avoid the crowds, plan your visit to Harrods early in the day – doors open at 10am Monday to Saturday and at 11.30am on Sundays. Weekdays, especially Tuesdays and Wednesdays, tend to be quieter than weekends. While the Christmas Shop opens as early as August, a mid-November visit is ideal for enjoying the festive atmosphere without the December rush.
While Harrods is known for luxury, there are plenty of budget-friendly finds. Affordable souvenirs such as the iconic Harrods Christmas Bear, branded mugs and festive treats from the Food Hall make great gifts.
