For nearly three decades, John Hegley has been bewildering the nation with poems about dogs, glasses, vegetables, and dogs that are vegetables. The accolade of 'national treasure' would undoubtedly bring a blush to his boyish cheek, but would be well-deserved nonetheless. If you like poems that do things you're not expecting, and songs accompanied by frenzied mandolin mayhem, then tonight's your lucky night. Heglify yourself.

Institute of Contemporary Arts SW1Y 5AH[map]

In recent times, the culture industry has capitalised on the work ethic of the art world - its ever-youthful energy, allure of freedom, flexible working hours, short-term or lack of contracts - and converted it into a standard production model. Following the success of Capitals of Culture schemes and the creative industries, governments have also been keen to embrace this post-Henry Ford work model and link it to the global neoliberal market economy. How have artists, curators and other arts professionals reacted? Can they offer alternative strategies and policies? Speakers: Matthew Herbert, musician and producer; Rudi Laermans, professor, Centre for Sociological Research, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven; Irit Rogoff, professor of visual cultures, Goldsmiths; Pil and Galia Kollectiv, artists, writers and curators working in collaboration; Pascal Gielen, co-editor (with Paul De Bruyne) of Arts in Society: Being an Artist in Post-Fordist Times, and author of The Murmuring of the Artistic Multitude: Global Art, Memory and Post-Fordism. Followed by book launch.
