Emery Walker's House
About
Discover a perfectly preserved Arts and Crafts house on a visit to Emery Walker’s House at 7 Hammersmith Terrace, north London.
Typographer Emery Walker was a friend of William Morris and a strong supporter of the Arts and Crafts movement. The house remains almost as it was when he lived there, mixing Morris & Co textiles, wallpapers and furniture with Middle Eastern rugs, Chinese ceramics and personal mementos.
Look out for the original hand-blocked Morris & Co wallpaper which features in nearly every room and dates back to the 1920s. Pause in the hallway to admire what is believed to be the only example of Morris lino surviving in its original domestic setting. Among the more personal possessions are pens and glasses that once belonged to William Morris.
Outside, a charming walled garden overlooks the river.
