What is Anne Boleyn: The Musical about?
From her early years and her rise to the throne to her demise, Anne Boleyn: The Musical tells the incredible story of Henry VIII's second wife, one of the most famous and intriguing historical figures in English history.
Anne Boleyn's marriage to Henry VIII was highly controversial at the time. Previously married to Katherine of Aragon, Henry defied the Pope and dismissed Katherine from court so he could divorce her and remarry. The following year, he broke with the Roman Catholic Church, setting himself up instead as the Supreme Head of what would become the Church of England.
After failing to give him a male heir, Anne and Henry's marriage unravelled. Accused of adultery and plotting against the King's life, Anne was arrested on 2 May 1536 and taken to the Tower of London, where she was executed.
Anne Boleyn was around 35 years old when she died, yet her life significantly influenced the religious and political landscape of Tudor England. She remains one of the most fascinating and influential women in English history, and her story has inspired dozens of books, films and series.
