What is Legally Blonde The Musical about?

Legally Blonde The Musical is a feel-good West End show based on the award-winning 2001 rom-com starring Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Coolidge. It follows the story of fashionable sorority queen, Elle Woods, as she swaps sunny California for Harvard Law School to win back her ex-boyfriend.

Constantly judged for her hyper-feminised looks and seemingly ditsy personality, she ends up discovering her own sharp legal mind and inner strength by getting involved in a major murder trial, all while staying true to her pink-loving, bubbly self.

Originally based on the 2001 semi-autobiographical novel by Amanda Brown, which was later adapted into a popular film, Legally Blonde The Musical first opened on Broadway in 2007. It then transferred to London’s West End in 2009 and has since toured internationally. It won the Olivier Award for Best New Musical in 2011 and now, following a sold-out UK and Ireland tour, it's back in the West End after 15 years.

Featuring original music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin, the 2027 production at the London Coliseum is directed by award-winning Nikolai Foster, who also directed the record-breaking revival of Kinky Boots.

Who is in the cast?

Actress, Love Island winner and Strictly Come Dancing 2025 runner-up Amber Davies plays Elle Woods, reprising her role from the UK and Ireland tour, and returning to the London theatre where she last performed in The Great Gatsby in 2025. She also previously starred in Bring It On The Musical, 9 to 5 and Back to the Future: The Musical.
