About

Discover how the lives of two graduates, who become lovers on graduation night, intertwine over the next two decades, as David Nicholls’ award-winning novel is brought to life on stage with One Day: The Musical in London.

This heart-warming and, at times, heart-wrenching story features an original score and transfers to the Garrick Theatre following its success at Edinburgh's Royal Lyceum Theatre earlier in 2026.

What is One Day: The Musical about?

It’s summer – St Swithin's Day to be precise – and the night of Emma and Dexter’s graduation. It’s just one night… or is it? As they spend the night together, they somehow know their lives will change forever.

This stage adaptation of David Nicholls’ 2009 award-winning novel follows their youthful on-off romance following that night, revisiting the pair on exactly the same day each year. As the unpredictability of life pushes and pulls at their relationship, will it stand the test of time through happiness and heartbreak, ambition and alcoholism, or is fate set to play its cruel hand?

Why you should see One Day: The Musical in London

One Day, which was also turned into a Netflix hit in 2024, reflects the turbulence of life, love and friendship, where opportunities are missed and second chances are either grasped or let slip. It highlights how an ordinary day can suddenly become anything but “ordinary”.

The storyline resonates with anyone who has loved, lost or whose pathway through life has been entwined with others – from flirtation to friendship, fallings-out to fun times and everything in between.

Who is in the cast?

One Day: The Musical cast includes Jamie Muscato (Heathers: The Musical, Cabaret and The Great Gatsby) as Dexter and Sharon Rose (Sylvia and Hamilton) in the role of Emma.
