About
Following its critically acclaimed success in 2019, A Midsummer Night’s Dream returns to the iconic Bridge Theatre for a strictly limited three-month run this summer.
Experience the comedic, magical journey of four young Athenians as they find themselves caught in a romantic entanglement.
What is A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Bridge Theatre about?
Nicholas Hytner’s immersive production of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream offers a modern and dynamic twist on the classic play. Returning to the Bridge Theatre for a limited three-month run, this captivating production features acrobats soaring above the audience and spellbinding effects.
Hytner reimagines the roles of King Oberon and Queen Titania, showing Titania and her mischievous servant Puck outwit Oberon by making him fall in love with Bottom, a simple weaver. The actors portraying Oberon and Titania also take on the roles of Theseus and Hippolyta, the Duke of Athens and his bride-to-be.
Expect themes of love, deception and societal expectations throughout this highly anticipated revival, as the cast brilliantly navigates a tangled web of misunderstandings in pursuit of love and happiness.
Who is in the cast of A Midsummer Night’s Dream?
The cast features JJ Field (Ring Round The Moon and The Pride) in the roles of Oberon and Theseus, Susannah Fielding (The Merchant of Venice) as Titania and Hippolyta, Emmanuel Akwafo (For Black Boys Who Have Considered Suicide When The Hue Gets Too Heavy) as Bottom and David Moorst (To Kill A Mockingbird) as Puck and Philostrate.
