About

Step into the electric world of 1970s rock'n'roll with Stereophonic at the Duke of York's Theatre in London, the most Tony Award-nominated play of all time.

Watch an emerging, fictional British-American rock band on the brink of superstardom, as they record an album in their California studio in the 1970s and face challenges that could either make or break them.

After receiving a record-breaking 13 Tony award nominations, the Broadway hit is coming to London's West End this spring.

What is Stereophonic about?

Fresh from its sold-out and highly acclaimed Broadway run, Stereophonic takes you on a thrilling journey through music creation, reflecting on both the agony and the ecstasy of the music-recording process.

Featuring original songs by Arcade Fire's Will Butler (including catchy "Masquerade"), the play follows a fictional, up-and-coming rock band as they experience the joys and struggles of recording a new album over the course of a year in 1976. It's their second album – their first is rapidly climbing the charts so the pressure to produce another smash is increasingly palpable.

Intricate power dynamics are also at play among the male and female bandmates – Diana, Peter, Holly, Reg and Simon – and their sound engineers, Grover and Charlie. As well as art creation, Stereophonic delves into powerful themes including love, friendship, drug and alcohol abuse, and depression.

While never named, the fictional band bears close resemblance to Fleetwood Mac. Fans of the renowned rock band will enjoy Stereophonic’s insights into creating music in the 1970s.

Cast of Stereophonic

Written by David Adjmi, directed by Daniel Aukin and featuring original music by Arcade Fire's Will Butler, Stereophonic stars Andrew R Butler (Charlie), Eli Gelb (Grover) and Chris Stack (Simon) in some of the lead roles.

Further casting will be announced soon.
