About
Hadestown has been captivating West End audiences since February 2024, and now it’s lighting up the Lyric Theatre with its electrifying mix of jazz, blues, and folk. After a triumphant, multi-award-winning Broadway run – where it scooped up eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical – this critically acclaimed production continues to captivate London audiences.
Blending jazz, blues and a touch of folk, Hadestown brings an unforgettable spectacle of love and fate combined with the power of music. Journey to the underworld and back as two epic love stories intertwine, in a show packed with stunning visuals, a soul-stirring score and theatrical magic that lingers long after the curtain falls.
What is Hadestown about?
Dive into singer songwriter Anais Mitchell’s joyful combination of folk, pop, Dixieland and blues, with this musical theatre staging of the acclaimed concept album promising a deeply resonant and defiantly hopeful theatrical experience.
Intertwining two mythical love stories, that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice and the story of King Hades and his wife Persephone, this modern-day retelling of the ancient Greek myth returns to the West End five years after its UK premiere at the National Theatre.
The powerful tale of love, loss and hard-won hope by director Rachel Chavkin holds the record for the highest grossing musical and the longest-running show in Broadway’s Walter Kerr Theatre’s almost century-long history.
Awarded eight Tony Awards in 2019 including Best Musical and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album, you’ll be singing the wonderfully diverse score in your head for days.
Hadestown 2025 cast
After honouring Hadestown’s legacy with its original cast, a brand-new lineup is stepping into the spotlight from 11 March 2025 – bringing some of the West End’s finest talent to the Lyric Theatre.
Taking on the role of Eurydice is Desmonda Cathabel (Disney’s Aladdin), while Olivier Award nominee Victoria Hamilton-Barritt (Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella) brings her signature to Persephone. Chris Jarman (original Harry Potter and the Cursed Child cast) takes the stage as Hades, and Cedric Neal – Olivier-nominated for his knockout performance as Nicely-Nicely Johnson in Guys and Dolls – takes on the role of Hermes. Meanwhile, Dylan Wood returns to reprise his role as Orpheus, completing this stellar new cast.
