The statue of Eros

Admire the Piccadilly statue of Eros, a beautiful winged archer poised with his bow, located in Piccadilly Circus.

Erected at the end of the 19th century to commemorate Lord Shaftesbury’s philanthropic work, the original name of the monument is Shaftesbury Memorial Fountain. The public sculpture’s actual subject is Antheros, the Angel of Christian Charity and brother of the Greek god of love, but Londoners refer to it as Eros. 

There are many things to do near the Eros Piccadilly Circus statue. Catch a hit musical at London’s Theatreland, or go shopping along Regent Street, Carnaby and Oxford Street.

Chinatown is a short walk away, with plenty of inviting restaurants and quirky shops. Alternatively, head to Covent Garden piazza to catch some live entertainment, or get your culture fix at the Royal Academy of Arts, National Gallery and National Portrait Gallery.
