About
Find a quiet place to walk and reflect on a visit to Abney Park, a beautiful garden cemetery in Stoke Newington.
This leafy green space is both a woodland memorial park and a local nature reserve. Amazingly, it still contains trees that were planted in the 1840s and that today provide a home for bats, owls, insects and fungi.
Among the people laid to rest in the cemetery are William and Catherine Booth, founders of the Salvation Army.
Sitting in the middle of the park is a grade II-listed Gothic chapel, said to be the oldest surviving non-denominational chapel in Europe. Look out for the striking ten-part rose stained glass windows which were designed to echo the cemetery's rose garden.
Events take place throughout the year including guided walks, talks, workshops and concerts.
Abney Park Cemetery opening times
The park opens at 8am and closes at dusk.
