Walthamstow Village

About

Discover an area brimming with independent shops, buzzing local pubs and plenty of inviting cafes and restaurants on a visit to Walthamstow Village in east London.

St Mary’s Church is at the heart of the village, dating from the 12th century it’s part of the area’s rich history and artist William Morris was baptised there. Just across the road find The Ancient House, a Grade II-listed building built in the 15th century and which is now privately owned.

Head further into the village and have a stroll around the shops, many of which are one-of-a-kind places where you can be sure to pick up something unique. Find cards, gifts and prints from talented artists at galleries, Here on Earth and The Little Manadarin. PAVEMENT sells beautifully crafted clothing, fashion accessories, homeware and more from both independent and established designers, while WORD sells cool kidswear.

Stop for a bite to eat in one of the many cafes and restaurants, including Axe + Ember which serves up flavourful slow-cooked meats, Texas style barbecue and Ruffs Bistro for delicious, seasonal dishes such as monkfish in curried coconut sauce and wild mushroom and truffle risotto. Craving brunch? Pop into The Good Egg at Eat 17 for Babka French toast with pomegranate, strawberry and sumac syrup.

Finally, have a leisurely cocktail at Bargo, a locally-distilled creation at Mother’s Ruin Distillery Gin Palace or a simple pint at The Nag’s Head or The Village pubs.
