About

Visit The Walthamstow Pumphouse Museum to explore the story of local transport and industry.

At the heart of the museum is the Grade II-listed Pumphouse, formerly a pumping station for Walthamstow’s sewage network, now home to a collection of engines and pumps including a working pair of original Marshall steam engines. It also houses a model railway which, when finished, will show the Chingford to Liverpool Street line at various points from the steam era.

Another feature of the museum is a collection of fire-fighting objects dating back to the 1800s. See a fire engine that has appeared in films and TV series including London’s Burning, or a horse-drawn engine from the Victorian era.

Hop on board one of two 1967 Victoria Line carriages. The carriages are often hired out for film productions and also transform three nights a week into a lively dining spot. Book a seat and enjoy a six-course dinner against an atmospheric backdrop of music and subtle lighting.
