About
Discover the largest selection of fish in the United Kingdom at Billingsgate Fish Market.
With 98 stands and 30 shops, this 13-acre market complex serves almost every port in the United Kingdom and sells an average of 25,000 tonnes of fish and fish products every year.
Billingsgate is a centuries-old market that originally sold general goods including corn, coal, iron, wine, salt and pottery.
It wasn’t until the 16th century that it became exclusively associated with the fish trade, with the exception of the sale of eels.
These were restricted to Dutch fisherman who helped feed Londoners during the Great Fire of London.
