Although it’s been in existence for close to 30 years, The Vortex Jazz Club breaks the mould of traditional jazz clubs with its lively, cutting-edge roster of fresh talent that reaches out to a wide audience. Winner of the Live Jazz Award category at the 2013 Parliamentary Jazz Awards, the not-for-profit venue hosts some 400 concerts each year – that’s more than one a day – with a focus on jazz, improvised and experimental music. As well as showcasing established performers, the Vortex has helped launch the careers of many artists and bands, including Polar Bear and Portico Quarter.
