Brixton Windmill

Take a free tour of this 200-year-old windmill in south London.
About
Built in 1816, Brixton Windmill is the closest surviving windmill to the centre of London, less than four miles from Charing Cross. It regularly grinds flour using electric-powered millstones, and is open for free tours, usually on the second weekend of the month, from Easter to October.
Full tours go to the top of the mill, where you can see the original wind-powered machinery and hear the intriguing story of the Ashby family, which owned the mill throughout its working life.
Advance booking is recommended.
Shorter tours visit the first floor of the windmill, where you can see the electric-powered millstones. These do not need to be booked in advance.
