Wander through the ivy-clad monuments in Victorian Highgate Cemetery in north London.
The cemeteries winding paths lead to the resting places of the well known and not so well known. Famous people laid to rest here include German-born philosopher Karl Marx and Douglas Adams, author of the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
Check out the Egyptian avenue, guarded by two imposing obelisks, the Terrace Catacombs and the Mausoleum of Julius Beer, the finest monument in the cemetery.
Pause and reflect in this tranquil setting or take time to get close to the nature surrounding you. The cemetery is a peaceful sanctuary for many species including foxes, and there's even a colony of cave-dwellling spiders.

Closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
