The Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play arrives in London's West End in a new production directed by Jeremy Herrin and starring multi award-winning actresses Lesley Manville and Anna Maxwell.

What is August: Osage County about?

Set during a sweltering summer in rural America, August: Osage County is a tragicomedy about a fiercely dysfunctional family that reunites at their Oklahoma home after the disappearance of the family patriarch.

As old wounds resurface and long-buried secrets are revealed, simmering resentments erupt during a chaotic family dinner.

Directed by award-winning Jeremy Herrin (Every Brilliant Thing, People, Places and Things, Wolf Hall) and featuring a star-studded cast, it's the first major West End revival of the play in nearly 20 years.

First staged by Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre Company in 2007, the play was later performed on Broadway and at London's National Theatre in 2008. It was then adapted into an Oscar-nominated film starring Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts in 2013.

Who is in the cast?

August: Osage County stars two-time Olivier Award winner and 2026 Tony Award winner for Best Actress Lesley Manville (Phantom Thread, The Crown, Ghosts, Oedipus) in the role of the pill-addicted matriarch Violet Weston.

Joining her on stage is two-time BAFTA winner Anna Maxwell Martin (Bleak House, Line of Duty, Poppy Shakespeare, His Dark Materials), who plays her eldest daughter Barbara Fordham.
