The seven Brown children have already managed to drive away 17 nannies, leaving their father desperately searching for someone who can bring some much-needed order to the household. But Nanny McPhee soon discovers that this is no ordinary family, with a baby who will stop at nothing, a mischievous group of children and even an out-of-control donkey to deal with. Armed with plenty of magic Nanny McPhee sets out to restore peace to the Brown household.

Emma Thompson, who starred in and wrote the screenplay for the 2005 film, is writing the book and original lyrics for the musical. She is collaborating with singer-songwriter Gary Clark (Sing Street) to create the music for this new stage adaptation. Who is in the cast?

An early workshop of the musical took place in London in 2018, with Olivia Colman taking part alongside Lily James and Rory Kinnear. The Nanny McPhee musical is set to be directed by Katy Rudd (Ballet Shoes), with set and costume designs by Rob Howell (Olivier Award-winning set designer for Matilda the Musical), choreography by Ellen Kane (Paddington the Musical, Matilda the Musical) and orchestrations by Simon Hale (Get Up Stand Up!).
