About

Don't miss John Proctor is the Villain, the celebrated play by Kimberly Belflower, heralded as one of the most compelling new shows in recent years.

Originally premiering on Broadway, the play earned seven Tony Award nominations in 2025. Following a sold-out run at the Royal Court, John Proctor is the Villain transfers to the Wyndham's Theatre on the West End for a strictly limited 12-week run from 2 February to 24 April 2027.

What is John Proctor is the Villain about?

This contemporary play revisits The Crucible through the perspective of the #MeToo movement. It follows a group of high-school students from a small, one-stoplight town who begin to question what they're taught as they study the classic play.

Set to a soundtrack of pop music, optimism and rage, the girls begin to uncover the dark secrets of their small town and take control of their own narratives.

What to expect

The production brings sharp, contemporary voices to the stage as it explores girlhood, the reclaiming of power and the importance of being able to tell your truth. Set against a soundtrack of pop music, the play puts a fresh perspective on a familiar literary classic.

Director Danya Taymor, known for Broadway's The Outsiders, brings her distinctive energy to the West End.
