About

After wowing audiences in Stratford-upon-Avon last year, the Royal Shakespeare Company production of Cyrano de Bergerac has transferred to London's West End for a strictly limited summer season at the Noël Coward Theatre.

This fresh adaptation of Edmond Rostand's classic is brought to the stage by director Simon Evans and co-writer Debris Stevenson, giving the timeless story a modern twist while preserving the poetry and romance at its heart.

At the centre of the story is Cyrano, the gifted poet, philosopher and master duellist, played by Olivier Award winner Adrian Lester. His charismatic performance captures both Cyrano's wit and vulnerability, bringing one of theatre's most memorable characters to life. With a limited 12-week West End run, it's worth booking tickets early.

What is Cyrano de Bergerac about?

Poet, soldier and philosopher, Cyrano de Bergerac is a man of remarkable talent whose brilliance is matched only by his self-doubt. Fiercely witty and deeply romantic, he lives by both his words and his sword. Convinced that his appearance makes him unworthy of love, Cyrano keeps his feelings hidden from his childhood friend Roxane.

When the handsome but inarticulate Christian falls for Roxane, Cyrano lends him his talent with words. Writing heartfelt love letters and speaking on Christian's behalf, Cyrano pours his own emotions while concealing his true feelings.

As war draws closer, Christian and Cyrano are sent off to battle, with Cyrano staying true to both his promise to help Christian and to the woman he loves. What follows is a moving mix of romance, comedy and tragedy that has captivated audiences for more than a century.

Why you should see Cyrano de Bergerac in London

Cyrano de Bergerac is not your usual love triangle story. It explores themes of self-worth, identity and the courage to express our true feelings, making Rostand's story as relevant today as ever.

This reinvention of the French classic celebrates eloquence through verse and metaphor, creating flamboyant, beautifully poetic lines while giving the play a fresh contemporary energy.

The production also features exhilarating sword fighting, with Adrian Lester leading finely choreographed duel scenes created by fight director Bethan Clark.

Who is in the cast?

The Cyrano de Bergerac London cast is led by Olivier Award winner Adrian Lester (Company) as Cyrano, alongside Susannah Fielding (The Merchant of Venice) as Roxane and Levi Brown (Macbeth) as Christian de Neuvillette.

Other cast members include Christian Patterson (Guys and Dolls) playing the deceitful nobleman Ragueneau, Matt Mordak playing Cyrano’s close friend and soldier Valvert, Scott Handy (Richard III) playing the ambitious and manipulative Comte de Guiche, and Philip Cumbus (Great Expectations) playing Cyrano’s confident Le Bret.
