What is RENT the musical about?
Set in the early 1990s in New York's East Village, RENT follows a group of young artists navigating love, friendship, ambition, identity and survival during the height of the AIDS crisis.
Inspired by Giacomo Puccini's 1896 opera La Bohème and set to a thrilling rock score, this iconic musical captures the joys, struggles and resilience of a young generation determined to make every moment count.

Today, it’s returning to the West End stage in a new production directed by Luke Sheppard, whose acclaimed revival at Manchester’s Hope Mill Theatre in 2020 and 2021 inspired this new London staging.

Gaten Matarazzo (Stranger Things) is making his West End debut as Mark Cohen, the aspiring filmmaker and narrator at the heart of the musical. The rest of the RENT cast is yet to be announced.
