What is the plot of Death Note: The Musical?

Death Note: The Musical is based on a hugely successful Japanese manga series written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata in the early 2000s, which sold more than 30 million copies worldwide.

The story follows a genius high-school student, Light Yagami, who discovers a mysterious black notebook, the “Death Note”, with the power to kill anyone whose name is written in its pages, and decides to use it to reshape society.

His vigilante mission to eliminate high-profile criminals and anyone he deems immoral quickly spirals out of control and attracts the attention of the enigmatic and highly esteemed detective L Lawliet.

What begins as a quest for justice to create a crime-free world soon descends into obsession and a relentless battle of wits between Light and L, forcing them to confront the limits of morality itself.
