About
Following its critically acclaimed success on Broadway, Cole Escola's dark comedy Oh, Mary!, which won the 2026 Olivier award winner for best comedy play, is currently enjoying a successful extended run in London's West End at the Trafalgar Theatre.
Experience the hilarious dreams and desperate desires of a miserable Mary Todd Lincoln in the weeks leading up to her husband Abraham Lincoln’s assassination.
Why you should see Oh, Mary! at the Trafalgar Theatre
Oregon-born comedian Cole Escola’s sharp, offbeat comedy takes a bold swing at American history, reimagining Mary Todd Lincoln not just as the First Lady, but as a former cabaret star desperate to return to the stage.
Set in 19th-century America, Oh, Mary! follows Mary as she chases fame, battles alcoholism and takes acting lessons – all while navigating President Lincoln’s deeply closeted secret and the looming plot of his assassination. Expect themes of love, power and deception in this hilarious play.
The Broadway production of Oh, Mary! opened at the Lyceum Theatre in July 2024 and quickly became a critical hit. It has since received widespread acclaim and multiple awards, including a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role in 2025, for writer Cole Escola’s unforgettable performance as Mary.
Celebrated director Sam Pinkleton won the 2025 Tony Award for Best Director for his production of Cole Escola’s play at Broadway’s Lyceum Theatre. He has now brought the play to the London West End with most of the original creative team. The wider creative team for Oh, Mary! includes costume designer Holly Pierson, lighting designer Cha See, and sound designers Daniel Kluger and Drew Levy.
From 17 August to 26 September, American drag performer Jinkx Monsoon, winner of RuPaul's Drag Race Season 5, will take on the role of Mary for a limited six-week run! From 28 September until 5 December, BAFTA-nominated Lolly Adefope, best known for her role in the hit British sitcom Ghosts, takes over the role, making her West End debut as Mary Todd Lincoln. They are joined on stage by Bianca Leigh (from the original Broadway cast of Oh, Mary!), who plays Mary's chaperone. Emmy Award-nominated actor Michael Urie (from Shrinking, Ugly Betty, and Broadway's Once Upon a Mattress) plays Mary's teacher. Olivier Award-winning actor Giles Terera (Rent, Hamilton) joins the cast as Mary's husband, while Tony Macht (Oh, Mary! original Broadway cast) plays his assistant.Who is in the London cast of Oh, Mary!?
