London Youth Hostels and Budget Accommodation
It's easy to stay in London on a slim budget. Among its hostels, there's a wide range of prices, services, locations and levels of comfort to choose from. During the summer vacation, several universities and colleges open their student halls to visitors, and they provide remarkably comfortable, budget accommodation.
St Christopher's Village
Book OnlineThere's a fun and lively atmosphere at St Christopher's Village. The busy bar at this large, modern, clean hostel in buzzy Southwark, is open to the public. There's even a rooftop sauna and hot tub. There are no facilities for storing or cooking food, but there are terrific food stalls galore in nearby Borough Market.
Palmers Lodge
Book OnlineThis top-flight hostel occupies the imposing Swiss Cottage mansion built for a biscuit magnate. As well as easy access to the West End, Palmers Lodge has free parking for cars and coaches. The 150 rooms range from doubles to 14-bed dormitories, and the hostel also features a bar, restaurant, TV room and laundry facilities.
Astor's Museum Inn
Book OnlineBang next door to the British Museum, and surrounded by Tube stations, this very central 100-bed hostel is in a typical London townhouse with (mixed) rooms of varying sizes. Astor's Museum Inn has a communal kitchen and a lounge with TV and DVD player for nights in, but a short walk will take you to Covent Garden and Theatreland.
Globetrotter Inn

Recently acquired by the London School of Economics and open to the public since July 2007, Grade II listed Northumberland House is just off Trafalgar Square. It's so central that most of London's major sights are within walking distance. Singles, doubles, showers, kitchens and laundries are all on the menu.
Prince's Gardens
If you're travelling on a budget and want time in the gym and then a swim in a 25m pool, it can be done during the summer vacation by staying in one of Imperial College's imposing South Kensington student halls. The rooms are mostly singles (a few twins) with regular housekeeping and 24-hour security.
Queen Mary's Student Village
Just 3km (2 miles) east of the City, looking over the Regent's Canal and Mile End Millennium Park, Queen Mary's student
village offers 1,000 modern and comfortable rooms, singles and doubles, between mid-June and mid-September. Kitchens and laundries are on site and shops and restaurants nearby. Buses for Central London run night and day.
Furnival House
Book Online In the fashionable hilltop area of Highgate, and set in its own grounds, Furnival House is a student hall, part of Westminster University. There are laundry and kitchen facilities on every floor. Highgate Village, the famous Highgate Cemetery and Kenwood House are all close by, with Camden Market and Central London within easy reach.
