About

Don't miss the Royal Shakespeare Company's award-winning production of Matilda The Musical at London's Cambridge Theatre.

Discover the stage adaptation of Roald Dahl's book, written by Dennis Kelly and with music by award-winning musician and actor Tim Minchin.  At the heart of the story is Matilda, an amazingly bright little girl with supernatural powers, who struggles with a dysfunctional family and the tyrannical authority of Miss Trunchbull.

Matilda is not just a musical, it's a captivating odyssey celebrating intelligence, resilience and the power of imagination, transporting audiences beyond the limits of the ordinary.

A man wearing a tratan two piece suit seems to be arguing with a young girl sitting on a pile of books.

What is the musical about?

The show tells the story of Matilda, an extremely intelligent five-year-old. Children and adults alike will be moved and enchanted by the story of this special little girl with an extraordinary imagination. Matilda's parents think she's unbearable and she rightly thinks they're only interested in their television. Life at school is not much better: Miss Trunchbull, the monstrous headmistress, terrifies pupils and teachers alike.

With the support of kind teacher Miss Honey, and the discovery of some very special powers, Matilda decides it's time to teach the grownups a lesson. Beware, a revolt is on its way amongst children.

A group of school kids are surrounding one of their classmates seating on a chair during the show Matilda The Musical.

The ingenious sets transport the audience into the magical world of Matilda's school, from the comforting warmth of the library to the intimidating austerity of Miss Trunchbull's office.

The musical has won an impressive array of prestigious awards. Among its many achievements, the production has won no fewer than five Tony Awards, including Best Musical, as well as seven Olivier Awards, the holy grail of musicals.

This musical goes beyond the boundaries of entertainment to become an immersive cultural experience that resonates long after the final applause.
