What is Matilda The Musical about?
The show tells the story of Matilda, an extremely intelligent five-year-old. Children and adults alike will be moved and enchanted by the story of this special little girl with an extraordinary imagination. Matilda's parents think she's unbearable and she rightly thinks they're only interested in their television. Life at school is not much better: Miss Trunchbull, the monstrous headmistress, terrifies pupils and teachers alike.
With the support of kind teacher Miss Honey, and the discovery of some very special powers, Matilda decides it's time to teach the grownups a lesson. Beware, a revolt is on its way amongst children.
The ingenious sets transport the audience into the magical world of Matilda's school, from the comforting warmth of the library to the intimidating austerity of Miss Trunchbull's office.
The musical has won an impressive array of prestigious awards. Among its many achievements, the production has won no fewer than five Tony Awards, including Best Musical, as well as seven Olivier Awards, the holy grail of musicals.

The cast of Matilda The Musical
Rakesh Boury take the stage of the Cambridge Theatre as Matilda's excentric father Mr Wormwood (We Will Rock You, Bend It Like Beckham). Joining him is with Amy Ellen Richardson playing his wife Mrs Wormwood (Crazy For You, Follies). The autoritative Mrs Trunchbull, headmistress at Crunchem Hall Primary School is portrayed by Kieran Hill (King Lear, A Midsummer Night’s Dream), and Lydia White (A Christmas Carol, Little Women) plays the sweet Miss Honey, Matilda's teacher, while Deborah Tracy (Standing at the Sky's Edge, Fisherman's Friends: The Musical) plays Mrs Phelps, the village librarian.
Matilda is played by Anna Deikalo, Estella Evans, Ava Posniak, and Sophia Saravanan. The specific actress portraying Matilda on any given night will be confirmed on the evening of the performance, as is the case with all roles played by children.

Is there an age restriction?
The theatre suggests taking kids aged six and above, but younger children are also welcome. The show is more than two hours long, and can be loud and scary in parts.
Children must sit in their own seats throughout the performance, and babies in arms are not permitted.
