From rugged landscapes to contemporary cities, there's lots to explore in North East England.

Visit NewcastleGateshead, where you can hear a concert in the magnificent Sage Gateshead venue, designed by Foster and Partners, and see Anthony Gormley's famous landmark, the Angel of the North.

Explore the ancient city of Durham, with its impressive Norman cathedral and nearby castle, which are a World Heritage Site. The surrounding areas – including the heritage coastline and North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – are a walker's paradise.

And don't miss the wild open spaces of Northumberland. The area is home to Hadrian's Wall, the Roman landmark that bears testament to centuries of border battles. Today the wall is a World Heritage Site, and you can walk along it and admire the spectacular views.
