About BODY WORLDS
The BODY WORLDS exhibitions are the first of their kind. Visitors to the show learn about anatomy, physiology and health by viewing real human bodies.
The bodies have been preserved by a process called Plastination – a groundbreaking method for preservation invented by Dr Gunther von Hagens in 1977.
BODY WORLDS: A Focus on Health and Wellbeing
BODY WORLDS & The Mirror of Time at The O2 featured more than 200 real specimens and had a special focus on health, wellbeing and the ageing process.
About Dr Gunther von Hagens

In 1977, while at Heidelberg University's Institute of Pathology and Anatomy, Dr Gunther von Hagens invented plastination.
The revelation came to him while studying a collection of specimens embedded in plastic. "I wondered why the plastic was poured around the specimens rather than pushed into the cells, which would stabilise it and allow you to grasp it," he says.
Plastination is a groundbreaking technology for preserving anatomical specimens.
Dr Gunther von Hagens and BODY WORLDS

Plastination has proved to be hugely important for educational purposes. More than 400 institutions in 40 countries use Dr Gunther von Hagens' invention to preserve anatomical specimens for medical instruction.
His BODY WORLDS exhibitions have opened up the incredible world of anatomy to over 25 million people. The exhibition has visited more than 40 cities across Europe, Asia and North America.
