Polish Social Clubs

Social clubs, along with the Catholic Church, have long been the centre of Polish community life in London. They are a place to meet and enjoy all aspects of Polish cultural life.

POSK (Polish Social and Cultural Association)

POSK is the biggest and best known of the London Polish social clubs, calling itself a "home from home". Social club, however, doesn't do justice to the variety of activities it houses. A theatre presents in-house, as well as visiting, shows and concerts. A bookshop and library is home to the Joseph Conrad (author of Heart of Darkness) Society headquarters. There are language and traditional dance lessons for all ages. A cinema shows the latest Polish releases, a recently opened jazz café in the basement of the club is open for business on Friday and Saturday nights and if that wasn't enough, POSK is also where you'll find Lowiczanka, a classic Polish restaurant serving great food at very affordable prices.

Polish White Eagle Club

Home to London's favourite Polish-family restaurant and now a favourite among the new generation of London Poles, this club is known for its Saturday night "zabawa" or dance, where people from all over town come to enjoy folk and pop music from live bands and the accompanying plentiful vodka. Sunday afternoon is also a busy time, when people stream in here for lunch after mass at the Polish church across the road. The Polish folk song and dance group Orleta also meet here every Tuesday at 7.30pm. 211 Balham High Road, SW17. Tel: +44 (0)20 8672 1723
