Middle Eastern Entertainment and Events

Here are some of London's main Middle Eastern entertainment venues and events.

Odeon Marble Arch

The only chance to see Arabic films on a regular basis is at the Odeon Marble Arch, which over summer 2006 had late-night screenings of recent Egyptian releases. Telephone for details.

Arab Film Weekend

The 1st Arab Film Weekend took place in March 2006. Organised by the Zenith Foundation, a UK-based organisation dedicated to promoting contemporary Arab arts, with the assistance of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), 8 films were screened. All were made in the previous 2 years, coming from Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Morocco and Algeria. Visit the Zenith Foundation website for further information.

Hubble Bubble

With no fixed venue or line up, Hubble Bubble is a club night that involves DJs and live performances by bands of diverse origin, particularly - but not exclusively - North African and Arabic. "Hubble Bubble has become an important showcase for music of Turkish, North African and Arabic flavour", says Necmi Cavli, the father of the event and a performer with the host group, Oojami. For details of forthcoming events visit the Hubble Bubble website.

Eid in the Square 2007

Eid ul-fitr, or Eid as it is more commonly known, marks the end of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting. Eid in Trafalgar Square is a free celebration organised by the Muslim Council of Great Britain and the Mayor of London. It features live entertainment, exhibitions and a street bazaar. The date of the event and other details will be announced on the Mayor's website closer to the time.

More Eid celebrations take place at the Victoria & Albert Museum.
