Although the Chinese community has spread across different parts of London as a consequence of a large and growing professional middle class, Chinatown inevitably remains its spiritual home – as well as one of London’s biggest tourist attractions. As the young, educated Chinese prospered in the 1980s and 1990s, they moved from Chinatown to Croydon and Colindale.
