Funky Buddha Lounge

Barefoot monks sipping tap water are extremely rare in this hedonistic, zen-free, members-only bar. Otherwise, it's eastern promise all the way, from the oriental decor to the tantalisingly spicy finger food. Celebs and polished professionals worship the Funky Buddha Lounge.

Hakkasan

From Alan Yau, the entrepreneurial whizz who brought chopstick-chain Wagamama to our high streets, comes the other-worldly Hakkasan. Charcoal-grey slate walls and deep-blue lighting give this basement hideaway a twilight vibe. If you squint your eyes, you may just spy a household face staring back atcha.

The Kemia Bar

Embosomed beneath the Moroccan phenomenon that is Momo restaurant, this members-only retreat readies everyone from royalty to racing drivers for the couscous and belly dancing festivities that lie ahead with a reclined vibe, low-slung sofas, ambient mantras and exotic tipples.

The Light Bar

Designer Phillipe Starck appears to have been inspired by his own name when creating the Light Bar, an ultra-minimalist son et lumiere experience. You want stark? There isn't even a bar (it's screened off)! The gorgeous lightshow, cutting-edge cuts and thoroughbred slurpies more than make up for the lack of cosiness, though.

Shochu Lounge

This stylish new-kid-on-the-block, named after a vodka-like spirit made from buckwheat, barley and sweet potato or rice, props up the slick Japanese restaurant Roka. Zone out on the Shochu Lounge's dark-wood-and-leather veneer, while supping palate-reawakening curiosities like the green-tea-and-pear Bellini.
