Organic London Restaurants

These days, increasing numbers of people are taking the plunge and becoming more environmentally-friendly.

This includes switching to organic food, which is often superior in taste and quality.

At these "green" London restaurants, there is an emphasis on locally grown, fair trade and unprocessed produce.

Acorn House

London's first truly environmentally sustainable restaurant was Arthur Potts Dawson's Acorn House in King's Cross. Using bio diesel, eco-sensitive takeaway containers and on-site water purifiers, Acorn House leaves no natural stone unturned. The food is sustainably sourced as well as being inventive and absolutely delicious.

The Duke of Cambridge

Islington gastro pub The Duke of Cambridge is certified by the Soil Association and serves a delicious range of organic food and drink. The blackboard menu changes constantly but always features fantastic, fresh and inventive cuisine. One of London's favourite gastro pubs, diners can eat in the bar or in the dining room.

The River Café

This restaurant is famous the world over for its use of exquisite ingredients. The owners attribute their incredible success to sourcing only what is in season for their Italian menu. The River Café is stylish and expensive, but it's also considered one of the best restaurants in the world.

Waterhouse

Arthur Potts Dawson, the man behind Acorn House, has opened a second environmentally sustainable restaurant, Waterhouse. The canal-side restaurant uses hydro-electric power and rooftop solar panels. Much of the food is organic and fair trade and the worms in the wormery eat up raw food waste.
