Old Royal Naval College
About Old Royal Naval College
The Old Royal Naval College grew up on the site of the Tudor Palace in Greenwich, where Henry VIII and Elizabeth I were born. William and Mary commissioned Sir Christopher Wren to design the present buildings in 1695 to house naval pensioners, and these became the Royal Naval College in 1873. The Painted Hall, decorated by Sir James Thornhill, and the Chapel are especially worth visiting as are the beautiful grounds. The Greenwich Foundation took over the administration of the site when the Royal Navy left the site in 1998.

Dance4 Jul 2012 to 8 Jul 2012
Scottish Ballet, National Dance Company Wales and English National Ballet with 'Dance GB'. The UK's three national dance companies perform together for the first time in a ground-breaking national celebration of dance inspired by the 2012 London Olympics and the coming together of the British nations for Team GB. The world premiere of this collaboration takes place in Glasgow, before the tour continues to Cardiff and London. At each performance, the three companies dance specially commissioned work from world-leading choreographers. Martin Lawrance (Richard Alston Dance Company) is collaborating with Scottish Ballet, National Dance Company Wales perform a new production by Christopher Bruce (Rambert Dance Company, Royal Ballet, English National Ballet), and Itzik Galili (Netherlands Dance Theatre, Rambert, National Dance Company Wales) is creating a piece for English National Ballet. 'Dance GB' is a unique opportunity to see three national companies perform specially commissioned work by international choreographers, each piece celebrating the breathtaking power and athleticism of these incredible dancers. 'Dance GB' also features the screening of a short film created as part of Dancing Parallel, a national project run by the three national companies bringing young people together to create a performance combining ballet, contemporary dance and parkour.
