Joe Allen
About Joe Allen
Joe Allen restaurant, in the heart of the Theatre District, is a London institution that, like the London Eye, remains lively and fascinating. It used to be that you had to work to find the dark door and tiny plaque by the entrance down Exeter Street by Covent Garden, but now a proper awning marks the spot so there’s no confusion. Once you enter, you descend into theatrical nirvana, an exposed-brick dark-wood New York-style complex, plastered with show posters, photos, and programmes. The long bar, seasonally-changing North American menu and seriously A-list regulars are all crowd-pleasers. Jimmy the resident pianist has been playing six nights a week since the doors opened 30 years ago. Casual, reliable, and open from lunch til late, Joe Allen is one of the West End’s biggest hits. And how can an American restaurant not have a hamburger on the menu? Well, they do. Just ask.

We had Joe Allen's pre-theatre menu which always offers a good choice and including a small carafe house wine is very good value. Excellent food - the goats cheese starter was just the right texture with a lovely nutty covering and the fish perfectly cooked and presented. The waiting staff were a bit slow but the friendly front of house staff made up for this.
Good reasonable food.
excellent ambience, food somewhat lacking
Had a 6.30 booking and the restaurant was buzzing when we arrived as a lot of diners were there pre theatre but it quietened down around 7. Still a pleasant atmosphere though and food was very nice although one of our dessert choices wasn't available
Joe Allen London Excellent restaurant and prompt service. Slightly over priced but that is probably due to the location.
