Bedford & Strand

About Bedford & Strand

Diners in search of great food and good times need look no further than Bedford Strand restaurant, a bar, wine room and bistro at the epicentre of London’s Theatre District close to Charing Cross Station. Divided into a laid-back bar area and a smart dining section, it’s a blend of old-school London wine bar and Parisian bistro, with simple wooden furniture, cream walls and a zinc bar. The modern European cuisine encompasses familiar British and continental dishes like potted crab with sourdough toast, homemade sausages with mash and onion gravy; and fish pie with seasonal greens. Ah, but then there’s Bedford Strand’s extensive wine list. It’s a four-page treasure trove divided into Honest, Decent and Good with chatty and detailed tasting notes. Perfect for pre-theatre dinner or post-work sessions or for an evening’s exploration of the mysterious delights of the world’s wines.

Good all round restaurant. Nice bar. Had drink first. House red wine a bit on heavy side. Nibbles £2.50 a tiny dish. But meal good, and prompt. Been before, will go again.

Very busy at Bedford and Strand in Covent Garden last night, service a little slow initially and nowhere to sit for a pre-dinner drink as tables in the bar area were reserved. The food however was excellent. A nice lively atmosphere.

We were the only people lunching, probably because their own web site says that they don't open until 5pm. The steaks were very fatty and loaded with rock salt - not really edible. A very nice place - apart from the food! Would have been very poor value if not for the Times Plus offer of 25% off
