Toptable says about The Balcony Bistro

The Barbican is home to the London Symphony Orchestra, great art galleries, several cinemas, two theatres, and a concert hall seating over 2000 culture vultures. When hunger makes a song and dance, they make their way to the first floor Balcony Bistro, a modern waiter service operation with a bar. The look is contemporary - lots of light, pale wood, funky chandeliers, little decoration. Very Scandinavian. A mid-priced menu offers simple European dishes cooked using the freshest ingredients. Nothing too heavy. Good selection of side orders. A large outside seating area overlooking the Barbican lake is one of a handful of City al fresco dining spots.

Another excellent lunch at the Balcony Bistro. Their black rock seafood grill wasn much enjoyed by my guest as well as me, he enjoyed the novelty of it. Service as always was friendly and attentive

Staff very helpful. Food not always coming together, but inventive and flavourful dishes. Excellent, generous starters. Restaurant short on atmosphere - looks more like a cafe.

Good venue for a meal before concerts etc at the Barbican. Service was quick.

I would have preferred the music to be a litlle lower. There is a range of sizzling dishes served on heated volcanic rocks but if you are seated near them you too will smell of sizzled meat/fish!!

Balcony Bistro fails to excite on many levels but also has limited scope to disappoint. The food and service are quite good but the menu is rather uninspired

The Barbican location does not help the ambience with drab grey concrete on a drab grey winter's day being a pretty awful mix

Excellent service. The waitresses were helpful and friend and took our time constraints into consideration. The meals ordered were well prepared and tastefully presented. The apertif selection on the menu is a little limited - no kir, martini, sherry offered for example. But overall a very good dining experience.
