The Gate Restaurant in London's Hammersmith is the capital's most successful vegetarian restaurant. Founded and operated by brothers Adrian and Michael Daniel, The Gate specialises in their uniquely personal style of cooking, one they characterise as Indo-Iraqi Jewish modulated by French and Italian influences. The brothers do some of their own foraging, particularly for wild mushrooms in season, and otherwise source the freshest local and organic produce for their dishes. With its high ceilings and large windows, the dining room is atmospheric and attractive, always lively day or night and, in summer, the courtyard adds a lovely space ready to be squabbled over by sun worshipping diners. It’s rare to find vegetarians so well looked after so it’s no wonder that The Gate has been a veggie mecca for more than ten years now. Even the wine list features organic, vegetarian and vegan wines, a perfect complement to The Gate's vegetarian cuisine.

The Gate is a gorgeous little hideaway where you can escape from the hustle and bustle of London living. It has the feel of an airy conservatory, with twinkling fairy lights and artwork on the walls. The menu is sublime, the staff courteous and friendly. We went pre-theatre and were only sorry not to have more time to soak up the atmosphere. Will definitely return.
Loved the food, as always. One of the best 'fancy' vegetarian restaurants that makes delicious food without blowing the budget! Cannot wait to go back!
The Gate Vegetarian restuarant in Hammersmith is a lovely local gem. The food is beautifully presented and delicious. You can tell that care has gone into preparing each dish.
The Gate Vegetarian Restaurant in Hammersmith offers a great selection of vegetarian dishes inspired from all parts of the world. The food itself was excellent. The serving staff generally coped well with our table of 8 although the waitress was a little thoughtless in her handing out of the dessert cutlery - leaning over us and bringing it after the food had arrived. There was also some delay in bringing dishes meaning some of us had to start before others had their food.
The Gate is a lovely little find int he most unexoected of areas! An oasis from what is quite a dreary Hammersmith backstreet. The food is very varied and uses vegetarian ingredients in an innovative and interesting way. Even a plain ice-cream isn't so here. Amazing flavours including rose and cinnamon. Worth trying for vegetarians and non-veggies alike.
