Situated in the heart of Clerkenwell, The Well is a gastropub with a difference, serving traditional British pub food with a twist. Upstairs, the rustic décor of wooden pub furniture and exposed brick walls makes for a cosy and homely ambience, while underneath the ground floor restaurant lies a trendy and buzzing cocktail lounge. Offering the best in British seasonal food, the menu comprises such delights as Pan fried cod cheeks, garlic, hedgehog mushrooms; and confit shoulder of Yorkshire venison, mashed neeps, haggis croquettes, thyme jus. After dinner, head downstairs to the chic cocktail bar, complete with aquarium and leather sofas, for a Strawberry Éclair or a classic Cosmopolitan.

Food at The Well was tasty but a little tricky to fillet the fish on a tiny table. Pub quiz was on the night we attended but we'd been warned by staff beforehand.
Nice little pub... was empty when we turned up (at 1230), but slowly started filling up... definitely a late lunch sort of a spot.
Great little find- excellent, varied menu
5 of us had lunch at the Well, taking advantage of the 50% off deal. 3 had the burger which is big and looks fresh and well prepared. 2 had the salmon fishcake with poached egg. Really good. Excellent service. Quite noisy. Very good value deal.
The Well at 180 st john St EC1 never fails to deliver, consistent quality food with an ever changing menu and friendly staff. The atmosphere is always lively at lunchtime which adds to the experience.
