Aloft London Excel Opens

New hotel Aloft London Excel opened in Docklands today. Located next to the ExCeL exhibition centre, the hotel is ideal for conference delegates, offering convenient modern accommodation with a funky twist. Aloft contains 252 guest rooms, a grab-and-go pantry, a bar and lounge, swimming pool and a new restaurant, FEDE, serving contemporary British cuisine. Aloft Excel also offers free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel and Bliss Spa products in all rooms. Aloft is the latest hotel brand to be launched in the UK by Starwood Hotels & Resorts, following the opening of W London in February.

Pudding Parlour at The Athenaeum

Indulge your sweet tooth at The Athenaeum's new Pudding Parlour, where you can stop by for an ever-changing menu of cakes and treats designed by the hotel's pastry chef. In addition, a special Pudding of the Month will be included, designed by Edd Kimber (winner of The Great British Bake Off 2010). Wash it all down with a pudding wine from the complementary pudding wine list.

Matilda-themed Afternoon Tea at the Radisson Edwardian Mercer Street

If you're planning on seeing the brilliant Matilda The Musical at the Cambridge Theatre, why not pop across the street to the Radisson Edwardian Mercer Street hotel for their Stupendous Afternoon Tea? The pre-show tea includes a selection of treats including Honey Ham Sandwiches, Ludicrously Lovely Lemon Loaf Cake, Tremendously Terrific Trifle and Fantastic Fondue.

45 Park Lane Opening

The Dorchester Collection's newest five-star hotel, 45 Park Lane, opens in London this week. The luxury hotel features 45 rooms and a penthouse suite. All rooms at 45 Park Lane offer views of Hyde Park. The hotel is designed by Thierry W Despont and features horizontal metal fins to utilise solar power within the building's heating and cooling processes. The hotel will house a restaurant, Cut, which is chef Wolfgang Puck's European debut.

Harrods Opens at Corinthia Hotel

Luxury retailer Harrods has opened a mini-store inside the five-star Corinthia hotel. Stock up on all your favourite Harrods-branded goods including tea, shortbread, chocolate truffles and beauty products. The boutique store is every bit as decadent as the hotel with white marble floors, high ceilings and glass adornments. A range of men's accessories and English china from Wedgwood, Vera Wang and Spode are also available in store.

Winnie the Pooh Playroom Opens at The Athenaeum

There's now even more for kids to do at the family-friendly Athenaeum hotel as it has opened a Winnie the Pooh-themed playroom for the summer holidays. Filled with toys, musical instruments, colouring sets and LEGO DUPLO, the playroom will keep kids occupied under the watchful eye of the hotel's nanny.  Every weekend complimentary honey-flavoured high tea will be served for parents in the Hundred Acre Wood setting of the playroom.

Two Hilton Hotels Planned for South Bank

Hilton Worldwide is set to open two new hotels in London's South Bank area: Hilton London Southbank and Hampton by Hilton London Waterloo. Hampton by Hilton London Waterloo, opening in 2012, will be the group's first Central London property and will feature 278 guest rooms. Hilton London Southbank is scheduled to open in 2012 with 281 guest rooms, a swimming pool, restaurant and views over Tate Modern.

Renaissance Chancery Court Hotel Rebrands

As of the 11 June 2011, The Renaissance Chancery Court Hotel is operating as an independent hotel, renamed the Chancery Court Hotel. Previously part of the Marriott group, the hotel will continue to provide five-star luxury and service to its guests. Last year, the hotel won the Gold Outstanding Customer Service Award at the Visit London Awards 2010.
