The Operating Theatre is the oldest surviving building of the original St Thomas’ Hospital.
Explore the stepped wooden surgical theatre and original timber framed garret where lifesaving operations took place on the wooden operating table between 1822 and 1862.
Operations were carried out between midday and 1pm to make the most of the natural daylight streaming through the theatre’s skylight.
