Lovely experience at the Petersham Nurseries cafe which is a world away from the typical Mayfair Michelin restaurant. The food here is simple yet interesting enough due to new chef Greg Malouf's influence. Service is friendly although those accustomed to being fussed over may find it too pared down. On a sunny day this is a great venue with decent food - although as it is quite far away it would be difficult to be motivated to make the journey on a gloomy afternoon.
We visited Petersham Nurseries near Richmond (Surrey) on a sunny March day and, sitting in the greenhouse that houses the restaurant, it felt like we were in the Mediterranean ... perhaps en Provence ... The food was very good, and again, the flavours reminded us of sunny climes. Some people might not like the rustic feel, such as the earth floor, but we thought it added to the charm of the place. It is on the pricey side, but we would very much recommend it nonetheless.
I booked a table for two at The Petersham Nurseries Restaurant in Richmond for a Valentines Day lunch. As expected, the wine, starters, main and pudding were all excellent. The seabass was exceptional and the crab cakes were to die for. The only thing I would improve is to make sure the entrance from the main road to the nurseries is improved to make the car journey a bit more comfortable. Would definitely visit again!!
I had lunch with my husband at the Petersham Nurseries, Richmond and it was absolutely beautiful. It was unique to dine inside the greenhouse and it's probably the only Michelin-starred restaurant where you can dress in your wellies! My only criticism was the prices - I paid about £31 for a sea bass filet. It tasted lovely but seemed pricey. It was a fantastic day - I suggest walking there along the tow path from Richmond, cut across the open field. It will feel like you are in the countryside!
