Simpson's in the Strand

About Simpson's in the Strand

Situated on the Strand, close to many of London’s iconic landmarks and theatres, Simpson’s offers a quintessentially British dining experience. The chandeliers and white linen in the wood-panelled dining room are a study in old-world elegance and the service is just as polished. The restaurant’s signature dish of 28-day aged Scottish beef on the bone is carved at the table from antique silver-domed trolleys – a practice that began over 150 years ago and continues to delight locals and tourists alike. The menu also includes classics like Beef Wellington, roast suckling pig, and steak and kidney pie. The restaurant’s wine list is a real treat for connoisseurs and the Knight’s Bar is ideal for pre-dinner cocktails. Whether you visit for business or pleasure, Simpson’s never fails to impress.

I've been coming to Simpson's since I was barely old enough to walk and the exceptional food never disappoints. However, the service on my last couple of visits has gone steadily downhill which is very sad. I could have overlooked the fact that they charged my credit card twice for the meal (these things happen) but after a badly made martini in the bad, followed by a meal where we had to wait twenty minutes every time we wished to flag down a waiter, one is left with a sour taste in the mouth.

Went to the famous Simpsons in Strand for a special anniversary which I had mentioned when booking. Was not given special table as requested nor was anniversary acknowledged. Whilst service was excellent restaurant lacked atmosphere and the food had very little " hanger appeal " the beef wellington at £29 came with a about five tired small slices of charrot,I had to send back my dessert as the custard was tepid and the jam role poly dry. The manager did not seem surprised, when I complained.

I thought it was like stepping back in time...in a pleasant way. The food was classic english fare ...roast beef and yorkshire pudding served at the table excellent and the service was good. I thought the foyer warranted an update particularly the chairs which have seen better days. I noticed this because we booked for 12.30 and waited 5 minutes for restaurant to open. Londoners arrived 1pm and after I would definitely go again for another good meal
