Old Spitalfields Market
Bustling, buzzing Spitalfields is a boon for shoppers. What was once a retail backwater is now a haven for those in search of a quirky shopping experience. Here it's the free-thinking independents not chain stores that hold sway, in a lively environment that truly deserves to be described as unique and eclectic.
On Brushfield Street, and Market Street resplendent under a Fosters & Partners-designed glass canopy, cutting edge fashion and interiors are joined by a dazzling array of food stores.
It's an offering geared as much to discerning shoppers as weary City boys and girls seeking a lunchtime change of pace. And it's now a seven-days-a-week destination. The market, once a Sunday-only mainstay, is open everyday except Monday and Saturday.
The programme of live music and artistic events makes Spitalfields a draw for anyone looking to eat, drink or watch the world go by. And above all, for style-conscious shoppers already captivated by nearby Brick Lane, Cheshire and Hanbury Streets, it's an opportunity not to be missed.
