Museum of Croydon Galleries at the Croydon Clocktower

The Museum of Croydon is a brilliant, award-winning, fun place to spend a couple of hours and to discover the real history of Croydon.

Use the touchscreen computers to explore displays and learn about the lives and experiences of people who have lived or worked in Croydon.

Follow our fun Family Trail, exploring the galleries with Iggy the iguana. You can press buttons on the touchscreen computers to choose and listen to different stories. Why not use the building blocks to build a 1930s house.

Riesco Gallery of Chinese Ceramics is a stunning collection of Chinese ceramics dating from 2500 BC to the 19th century. High points include amazing Tang dynasty tomb models and beautiful Ming dynasty bowls. The collection was left to the London Borough of Croydon by local businessman Raymond Riesco.

Families at the Riesco Gallery can enjoy touch dragon-themed soft toys, play with the building blocks, puppets, colouring sheets, puzzles, word searches, reading books and of course hunt for the beautiful ceramics decorated with dragons!

Opening Times The Museum of Croydon is on the 1 st floor (above the toilets). There is a lift and stairs to reach the 1 st floor. Open 10:30 – 17:00 Monday to Saturday (except Bank Holidays)
The Riesco Gallery is on the ground floor, opposite the toilets. Open 11:00–17:00 Monday – Saturday (except Bank Holidays).

    The Croydon Art Collection contains over 2000 paintings, prints and drawings. Depictions of local scenes and landmarks are stored alongside prints by Henry Moore and Bridget Riley and paintings by Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore.

  • Dragon Tales at Museum of Croydon

    Dragon Tales combines hands-on activities with depictions of dragons in Chinese and world mythology. The exhibition explores the stories told about these fantastic beasts with a changing programme of stunning loans from the British museum, alongside the museum of Croydon's own exceptional collection of Chinese ceramics. It brings young children face-to-face with these centuries-old dragons, and encourage them to discover more through dragon-themed play.

  • Handling Collection at Museum of Croydon

    The Handling Collection contains over 300 objects that are meant to be touched. The objects are used with school and community groups to help people find out about the past firsthand. These sessions are delivered in the brand new Clocktower Activities Room and can be followed by a visit to the New Museum of Croydons galleries.
