Jewel Tower
About Jewel Tower
Part of the original Palace of Westminster. Standing just opposite the Houses of Parliament, this originally moated medieval tower is one of only two surviving remnants of the great Royal Palace of Westminster. Built in c.1365 by Edward III, it guarded the 'King's Privy Wardrobe', a treasury of personal royal valuables and rich robes. The interior displays a fine 14thC ribbed vaulted ceiling, and now houses 'Parliament, Past and Present', a fascinating exhibition about the development of British government through history.
